Total Time: 12 weeks Online (3 months)
- 36 contact hours - sessions via Zoom meeting on Wednesday morning 8:30am - 10:00am
- 60 contact hours – completing daily assignments (Mon-Fri) via Canvas
Course Description/Objectives
This program prepares students for a career assisting licensed pharmacists in various settings, including retail, hospital, and other settings. The curriculum provides students with a foundational knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacy law, terminology, along with practical skills in prescription processing, and managing pharmacy operations. The program includes online classroom instructions, lab work, discussion/group projects and more to ensure students are prepared for entry level positions and national certification exams.
Upon completion the students should be able to:
- Perform all functions of a pharmacy technician, including order entry, filling prescriptions and inventory mangament.
- Apply pharmaceutical calculations and conversion to ensure correct drug dosage.
- Understand and adhere to federal and state laws, regulations and ethical standards governing pharmacy practice.
- Recognize and interpret medical and pharmceutical terminology, abbreviations and symbols.
- Identify different drug classifications, brand/generic names, dosages, and common side effects.

Course Outcome
Upon completion of this program with a passing grade of 80% the student will receive a Certificate of Completion. This program will ultimately prepare students to take the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam or the NHA ExCPT exam, and gain entry level employment as a pharmacy technician. Our program is approved by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) to prepare students to sit for the certification exam.
