Course Name: Pharmacy Technician Program

Academic Term: Fall 2025

Class Start: Monday, September 22, 2025

Total Time:  12 weeks Online (3 months)

• 36 contact hours - sessions via Zoom meeting on Tuesday nights at 7:30pm - 9:00pm and some Saturday mornings 9:00am - 10:30am
• 60 contact hours – completing daily assignments (Mon-Fri) via Canvas

Course Description/Objectives

This program prepares students for a career assisting licensed pharmacists in various settings, including retail, hospital, and other settings. The curriculum provides students with a foundational knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacy law, terminology, along with practical skills in prescription processing, and managing pharmacy operations. The program includes online classroom instructions, lab work, discussion/group projects and more to ensure students are prepared for entry level positions and national certification exams.

Upon completion the students should be able to:

• Perform all functions of a pharmacy technician, including order entry, filling prescriptions and inventory mangaement.
• Apply pharmaceutical calculations and conversion to ensure correct drug dosage.
• Understand and adhere to federal and state laws, regulations and ethical standards governing pharmacy practice.
• Recognize and interpret medical and pharmeceutical terminology, abbreviations and symbols.
• Identify different drug classifications, brand/generic names, dosages, and common side effects.
